PUBLIC SPEAKING: (Course Description)

This course will be aimed towards doing my best in preparing students in the field of public speaking. The State Board of Education establishes the academic requirements; meaning, this class does have academic demands you must meet before passing. You will be asked to present information and material through "public" discussion; meaning each student will be asked to speak in front of his/ her peers about given topics, read (in class and out), write (speeches, papers, and responses), discuss (engage in classroom discussions and presentations), and listen (you cannot appreciate someone else unless you hear what he/she has to say). These listed abilities must meet the state standards to pass. This is a time-based course because each speaker is given a designated time, so students who have a hard time getting to class on time WILL STRUGGLE IN THIS CLASS. There is nothing more problematic than students walking in late during videotaped speeches. DON’T BE LATE, or suffer the grade.

The State of California established certain Educational Standards for public schools and their students. These standards were set to make evaluation of students more consistent, efficient, and determinable. The state standards apply to all aspects of the subject area. Students are responsible for reading, writing, speaking, analysis (word, sentence, literature, spoken language, and theme). These are which I as a teacher must adhere to, and so shall the student.
