English 9 Honors Course Outline
Mrs. Mattingly

Objectives:
To enhance student understanding of individual works of literature

Classroom Climate: This class is characterized by the active interchange of ideas. The success of the program depends on the active cooperation and effort of the students who should be willing to actively and verbally participate in class.

H omework Policy:

Much of the English homework will be reading, approximately 50-75 pages per week. Quizzes are often given the day the reading is due. A vocabulary list of 15-25 words will be assigned each Monday with a quiz given each Friday. Numerous quick-writes (top to bottoms) will be expected to enhance critical thinking, and at least one major essay will be due each quarter. Daily homework is accepted late, but will be worth only one half of the value of the assignment. Major assignments drop one letter grade for each day they are late. Avoid late work at all costs; it is extremely detrimental to your grade, and more important, it sets the precedence for a bad habit which eventually becomes addictive. Trust me.

Grading Policy:

The majority of homework, quizzes, tests, writing assignments, and projects will be graded. Some work will be evaluated for completion, some for accuracy of content, and some for creativity. Regular attendance is necessary to stay on top of assignments and the daily classroom learning and discussion. Students are expected to make up all work due to absence in a timely manner.
