Physical Science
Welcome to my research team. Our task is to study the basic forces that hold the universe together. To do so, we will study astronomy, chemistry, physics, and geology. We will use all the benefits of modern technology: computers, internet access, and lab equipment. But none of this equipment means anything without the ability to use the most complex computing device ever constructed - the brain. We can not complete our exploration of the universe without everyone¹s participation. My job is to make sure every member of the research team is able to assist us in our exploration
Course Requirements:
Homework: Students can expect homework 3 or 4 times a week. Homework is due on the day stated. Any homework handed in after the due date is late. The only excuse for late homework is an excused absence. At the beginning of each class, completed homework will be stamped. It will remain in your notebook. When tallies are annouced (see below), stamped homework will receive full credit. Unstamped homework will receive half credit. Therefore, if you do not complete the homework on time, do it anyways and receive half credit when the notebooks are collected.
Tallies: At the end of every unit, a tally with take place. Tally day will be annouced at least 3 days in advance and a tally sheet will be distributed. On tally day you must bring the tally sheet plus any homework. If you forget to bring the material, you will still receive credit but you will lose at least 20 points credit.
Absences: If you are absent, it is your responsibility to make up any work due including copying the Q of the Day and agenda for each day missed from a classmate. For other work due, you should:

8. You will be given only 2 hall passes per semester. Any additional hall passes may be purchased with a 15 minute after school detention.
Consequences:
1. A verbal warning. This is my way of alerting you to assess your inappropriate behavior. A warning to any one is a warning to all.
2. We have a conversation. You and I talk after school for 15 minutes. If I think it is necessary, a parent contact will be made.
3. Referral: At this point you will be given a referral.
I reserve the right to skip any of these steps and write an immediate referral for any action I consider a serious breach of classroom behavior including any violent, illegal or rude action.

Grading: Grades are determined as follows: 55% quizzes & Tests (including Final) 20% Homework & Tallies 25% Labs, reports and special projects Grades and scores will be posted(anonymously) on a regular basis. Any student whose grade falls to a C- or below will receive a NOF (Notice of Failure). Grades are computed as follows:

Labs: Lab work is a privilege, not a right. Any student caught abusing that privilege by mistreating the equipment, not following instructions or engaging in activities that endanger themselves or others will lose their lab privileges. They will be assigned alternative assignments until such time as the teacher feels they have earned their lab privileges back. Students will be responsible to pay for any lab equipment (especially the glass items) they break because of negligence, inattention or failure to follow instructions.
Extra Credit: Occassionally there may be an extra credit assignment. Also, an extra credit or bonus problem or question may be included in a test. A student may raise their grade with good class participation by as much one third of a letter grade.
Office Hours: I am here to teach. I chose to be a teacher. If you do not understand something, please see me after school or arrange to meet me during lunch.
Contacting the teacher: The teacher maybe contacted by dialing 657-3600 x 3655 and leaving a message or by e-mail at jfendell@fremont.k12.ca.us.
Basic Rule: You are responsible for your actions. I will treat you like young adults, with emphasis on the word "adult". Act like one.
