Welcome to Mrs. C's art website!  Art is fun, expressive, and expansive! Art is a visual language that all humans can understand.  I begin teaching Art 1 by introducing my students  (through various art projects) to the alphabet of this visual language, the elements of art, (line, space, texture, shape, form, value, color theory.)

Art 2 and 3 continue this study of art with more emphasis on the complexity of design through three dimensional sculpture, and mural design. The students in Art 2 and 3 explore color theory through advanced watercolor, acrylic painting, and individual portfolio projects. Creativity and individuality in composition and design are encouraged and taught thru layouts and warm up lessons in all classes.

Specific techniques in various mediums such as colored and graphite pencil, scratchboard, ink drawing, print making, painting, mask making, and sculpture etc. are taught in the art classes.

Monetary Costs: A $50.00 lab fee is due at the beginning of the year. This fee will cover both semesters expenses of expendable materials. ( Art 1: Paper, sketchbooks, mask making supplies, ink and calligraphy pens, brushes, lino-blocks, printers ink etc.) (Art 2 and 3: high quality watercolor pads, watercolor tube paints, brushes, charcoal and charcoal paper, oil pastels, acrylic paints and canvas, sculpture materials, ink pens, etc.) Cash or checks made to MSJHS are acceptable.

Students are welcome to bring some of their own art supplies. These are to be labeled with student name and put away in their locked desk locker. A combination or lock with two keys is required. It is used to secure the students artwork and art supplies safe within their locker.  They also are required to bring a covered plastic container, as a palette, no more than three inches high and several inches wide and a clean small cloth.

Grading: Students are graded on a point system. Points are earned for worksheets, layout drawings, final art projects, written assignments, daily work done in class, clean up, and final tests. Points are lost for failing to work in class and can not be made up. Two points are deducted each day a student does not work in class or forgets materials needed in class.  There is no curve in these studio art classes. It is possible for every student to earn an A grade by their efforts.  Many students are new to Art, I look to their effort, care, and completion of projects in determining their grades.  I begin with simple work sheets to introduce techniques and continue with final art projects. Students who are absent on the day a project is due, must turn it in on the first day back at school. Students who miss several days must set a due date with me, to turn in the project, or they will receive zero points for the project.
