Mission San Jose High School, one of five comprehensive 9-12 high schools in the Fremont Unified School District, opened in 1963. Mission is located in the southeastern portion of the city of Fremont near the historic Mission District and Ohlone College.

School Community

Mission has a student population of 2115 with the following ethnic breakdown: 75% Asian, 5% other ethnicities and 20% Caucasian. Parental involvement is one of the many strong points that characterize the school. The two main parent groups are Mission Possible, our PFA, and Mission Boosters.

School Vision

The mission of our school is the development of the mind, character, and physical well being of our students through the creation of an environment fostering academic excellence, maturity, responsibility and mutual respect. All students are expected to demonstrate effective reading, writing, listening, speaking and computational skills. In addition, students will possess the ability to solve a variety of problems in a collaborative environment, become effective communicators and critical thinkers and problem-solvers.

Curriculum and School Program

The focus of this school is the student, and student achievement is our primary goal. The schools curricular program offers a wide range of courses and levels. The school offers honors level classes in English, science and mathematics in conjunction with college preparatory classes in all core academic areas. Mission also offers a wide array of Advanced Placement courses in English, Fine Arts, Foreign Language, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. Another integral part of Mission’s curriculum is our elective program, including our award winning and State recognized woodshop program that is the only four year program in the district, our drama and music programs which consistently garner awards in various regional and state competitions. Students have the opportunity to enroll in ROP courses offered both on and off campus. Mission also offers career strands in Biotechnology, Forensic Science, Merchandizing/Marketing and Culinary Arts/Pastry.

Scholastic Excellence

Mission graduates virtually every senior and the attendance rate for the school is 97.5% with a dropout rate of less than 1%. Ninety-five percent of our graduates matriculate to post-secondary education with 77% attending four-year colleges/universities including all UC and CSU campuses.

Mission High received a full 6-year WASC accreditation in 2002. Mission is the district leader in average SAT scores with a Verbal of 612 and Math of 663. Mission has consistently met both its API and AYP requirements with the most recent API score of 935 making Mission the top ranked non-magnet public high school out of 7,000 high schools in the state. Mission leads Alameda County in the number of National Merit Finalists (41), and National Merit Commended students (44). Newsweek has twice recognized Mission as one of its top high schools in the nation. Our students, with the assistance of staff members, continue to accumulate awards for individual and group competitions. These awards include 1st and 3rd place finishes in the National Lincoln Douglas Debates, 1st place in both the National Science Bowl and Oceanic Bowl as well as national recognition by the Siemens Westinghouse and Intel Science Talent Search competitions. Mission is extremely proud of its students and the accomplishments of our rich and diverse community.
