Realizing that some families need to vacation during the time school is in
session, or that students may need to miss school for other reasons, we would
like to introduce our Independent Study Program.
Parents
can request that their child/children be enrolled in Independent Study when they
know that the child will be absent from school for 5 or more consecutive school
days. Generally, we would appreciate at least two weeks notice so that we can
prepare to meet with you regarding the work to be done on Independent Study.
Please
notify the school office as soon as you are aware that your child/children will
be missing school. Upon notification, we will set up a meeting with your child
and our supervising teacher. Meetings will be held between 12:40pm to 1:15 pm
only. At that meeting, you will receive assignments to be done while your child
is away from school. These assignments are intended to allow your child to keep
up with the work being done at school in his/her absence and should correspond
accordingly. All Independent Study work must be completed and turned in on
returning date. It cannot be turned in late.
Please
return the completed work on the due date, which will usually be the first day
back at school. If your child is unable to return to school on the planned due
date, you must make arrangements to turn in the work on or by the due date
anyway.
The teachers will evaluate the work for both class credit (grades) and for time
earned (to clear absence) .
