Brookvale Grading policy

Brookvale Elementary School Grading Policy

Grades 1-6

Grades S, N may be used in grades 1-6 for handwriting, arts, music, P.E., and study skills.  Students in grades K-3 may use the S, N and O letter grades to track academic  and social performance. 

 

Brookvale teachers will base a student’s grades on the percentage system as follows: 

100-90% - A

89-80%- B

79-70%- C

69-60% - D

59-0 % - F

Note:  +/- grades may be used by the teacher in regards to type of effort student is displaying within that grade category.  If a student is borderline C/D and the student has consistently attempted to improve that grade then the teacher may issue a + for the grade category.

The following criteria are used when assigning overall grades in CORE academic areas:

 

A – OUTSTANDING (primary letter grade of O)

·       Produces markedly superior work and ACHIEVEMENT consistently demonstrates a high level of

·       Understanding of concepts and application of skills of the course/class.

·        Does extra work in addition to assigned work, both teacher suggested and/or self-initiated. 

·       Works independently.

·       Shows high ability, initiative and originality in problem solving.

 

B  - ABOVE AVERAGE  (primary letter grade of "O" or "S" depending upon level of performance)

·       Above average, consistent completion

·       ACHIEVEMENT of work with above average understanding of concepts and application of skills.

·       Completes work on time.

·        Shows interest in work and evidence of ability to apply concepts.

·       Works with little assistance from others.

·       Does independent work

·       Showing initiative.

 

C -  AVERAGE  (primary letter grade of S)

·       Demonstrates satisfactory achievement of course/class objectives.

·        Learn facts, concepts, and applies skills.

·        Usually completes work on time.

·       Evaluates work and improves under teacher direction.

·       Does some independent work, showing initiative.

 

D - BELOW AVERAGE (primary letter grade of N)

·       Below average work, inconsistent achievement

·       Minimal effort or progress.

·       Learns some facts and concepts and with additional help and can apply them.

·       Needs to improve the amount of work completed.

 

F  - FAILURE

·       Poor work

·       Unsatisfactory achievement

·       Little or no work or progress.

·        Work is inferior to accepted standards.

·       Learns few or no facts or concepts.

·       Is unable to apply what is learned.
