Dear Washington High School Families,
Washington High School started the 2012-2013 school year on a very positive note. On opening day we had our traditional evacuation drill followed by a motivational assembly which really emphasized our school slogan: PRIDE*Tradition*Excellence.
Link Crew provided welcoming activities for our incoming freshmen that took place prior to the start of school. My entire administrative team wants to thank Helen Paris, Tim Nichols, Elizabeth De Witt, Vincent Wu and all of the students who made these events possible. On September 13th our seniors went to Water World to enjoy the traditional senior picnic. The weather was beautiful and a good time was had by all in attendance. Later that evening, we held our annual Back to School Night which was extremely well attended. As always, I received very special messages from parents complimenting the professionalism of our staff. If ever you feel that a teacher has done something special for your student, please send me an email. I love the feedback and it is very meaningful to my staff.
I would like to thank the district office for all their continued support and efforts with the summer projects. Our projects were done in record time after summer school ended. The outdoor volleyball court is now finished and offers yet another option for our students. Safety is our number one responsibility. We love our students to stay on campus at lunch, and again this year, many students are choosing to eat and enjoy sports activities on campus. We want to thank our devoted custodians and clerical staff who worked endless hours to prepare for opening day. ASB and student volunteers did a great job with MAZE, campus beautification projects and extracurricular activities.
Dr. Morris, our Superintendent, has vowed that FUSD will be the first district in California to adopt a zero tolerance policy against bullying and cyber bullying. During the week of September 17th we held grade level assemblies to address these two topics. I was proud of how seriously our students received the message and how supportive they were to this cause. WHS continues to have one of the most spirited schools in California.
As a school community we will accept and meet the challenges that face all schools in these unusual times. We believe that every student can be successful in school and in life. Washington High School is up for each and every challenge that comes our way. We remain committed to serve our students and parents in the most, effective, efficient and professional manner possible.
Welcome back to a great new year.
Linda Fernandez, Principal
