IN 2009-2010, MISSION POSSIBLE AND SCHOOL SITE STAFF IMPROVED SCHOOL SAFETY BY REPLENISHING SUPPLIES AND REVISING THE SITE SAFETY PLAN. BELOW IS INFORMATION REGARDING THESE UPDATES, AS WELL AS GENERAL PROCEDURAL INFORMATION.
Safety Supplies
In spring 2010, parent and student volunteers updated all of the classroom backpacks and safety container supplies. Thanks to these volunteers and Mission Possible funds, MSJ is well-stocked with emergency supplies should there be a need for students and staff to remain on campus for a prolonged period of time.
Preparedness
Each high school in FUSD is required to hold four drills per school year, two of which are evacuation drills. On Thursday October 21st MSJ will be participating in the Great California Shakeout. We will hold a duck, cover and hold drill, followed by an evacuation. During the evacuation, staff, students and safety committee parents will simulate assigned roles.
WHAT SHOULD I DO DURING AN EMERGENCY?
Communication updates regarding emergencies will be posted to the emergency link on the FUSD website..
School Lockdown
A lockdown requires students and staff to remain locked in their classrooms and offices. An emergency necessitating this procedure might include: a hazardous materials spill, an on-going police action in the neighborhood, or a dangerous intruder on campus.
DO: Check the district website for updates: Check www.fremont.k12.ca.us for updates under Emergency Information
DO NOT: Come near the campus. This will put you, staff, students and emergency personnel at risk.
DO NOT: Call the school for information. Phone lines are needed by staff and emergency personnel.
DO NOT: Call or text your student. This creates classroom noise and may spread misinformation.
DO NOT: Call Fremont Police Department. Phone lines must be kept open for vital communications.
Earthquake
There are supplies, including food and water, first aid, search and rescue equipment, blankets, etc. if the earthquake is strong enough to hold students and staff for a prolonged period of time. Student release procedures will depend upon the strength of the earthquake. Please follow release instructions below.
Student Release
After a severe emergency, an individual student release may be required. To ensure that ALL students are accounted for during a student release, please follow these instructions:
- Check www.fremont.k12.ca.us for updates under Emergency Information
- Proceed to campus only after a release has been announced
- Students will only be released to ADULTS listed on their emergency cards
- These adults must show identification when they arrive for pick-up
- Please consider travel distance and decision-making responsibilities when listing people on emergency cards
- Whenever any contact information changes, please notify your students attendance clerk immediately
- Students will not be released to pick up younger siblings at other school sites as those students may also be held at their respective schools
- Please follow emergency personnel and site staff instructions upon arrival to the campus
- If the district website is inaccessible, parents/guardians should go to Ohlone College Parking Lot H to receive information. Turn left on Pine Street from southbound Mission Blvd. and enter the parking lot on the left. View map
