Every few years, under the direction of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, high schools and colleges go through an accreditation process.  This process begins with writing a self-study review, which discusses all aspects of the school.  A WASC committee then spends time at the school reviewing the report, visiting classrooms, assessing the school's programs and offering areas of growth from which the school can improve.
