  1. Technical Aspects – What is the proficiency of the student with regards to the use of the medium or skill in the area that they are working with?
  2. Creativity - What has the student added to their project that is unique? Did they communicate an idea, theme, or feeling?
  3. Composition – Did the student display a working knowledge of the Principles of Design? Are the elements inside the work arranged deliberately and in a premeditated way?

General Rubric for Student Project Assessment

  • “A” Work

Exceptional Quality, Mastery of Skills / Techniques. Exhibits an outstanding degree of originality, personal expression and creativity. The student effectively demonstrates a clear understanding of the ability to communicate using the Principles of Design. Minor / No adjustments needed to artwork.

  • “B” Work

Above Average Quality, Appropriate Skills / Techniques. Exhibits substantial amount of originality, personal expression and creativity. The student demonstrates the ability to communicate using the Principles of Design. Some adjustments needed on artwork.

  • "C" Work

Average to Adequate Quality in Skills / Techniques. Student exhibits substantial amount of originality and creativity. The student demonstrates some ability to communicate. Principles of Design may not be apparent. Various adjustments needed on artwork.

  • "D" Work

Inadequate Quality, Lacking Skills / Techniques. The student demonstrates some originality and creativity. The student demonstrates some evidence of communication. Principles of Design may not be apparent. Many adjustments needed on artwork.

  • "F" Work

Poor Quality, Lacking Skills / Techniques. Shows limited degree of originality and creativity. Minimal communication skills present. Major adjustments needed on artwork.
