If
I would like to buy a textbook for my child, where can I get
the information?
ISBN
numbers are listed for textbooks under course descriptions.
Most large book stores sell the texts.
If my child is not in the Honors program, is it
possible for my child to move into the Honors program?
It is
possible if your child’s mathematics teacher recommends such
placement. If you are coming from a private school, or
another school where your child is not currently identified
as Honors, then the counselors at MSJHS may
recommend
placement provided these three requirements are met:
-
Student must have 500+ on Math Standards test
-
Student must have A's in math
-
Student must have teacher recommendation
GATE
identified students with a code of 1, 2, A or M have their
choice to be in math honors courses.
Acceleration vs. Enrichment: Taking courses at Ohlone:
Can a
student take courses at Ohlone and then skip a course in the
MSJHS sequence?
It is
possible, but not recommended. The MSJHS Math Department
allows acceleration (skipping an MSJHS course) if a student:
-
i)
Is currently achieving at least 95% on Test Scores in
their MSJHS class.
-
ii)
Takes the appropriate courses at Ohlone, and receives
A’s in all coursework.
-
iii)
Notifies their grade
level administrator in May prior to any summer
coursework, and receives appropriate signatures from
their grade level administrator.
Which courses may be accelerated at MSJHS by taking courses
at Ohlone?
Algebra2/Trig, Algebra I, Algebra IA, Algebra IB may be
accelerated.
Note:
All course in mathematics at Ohlone can always be taken for
enrichment, but acceleration (skipping a course in the MSJHS
sequence) is much more involved, and only the above courses
may be accelerated.
How do I enroll in Ohlone Math courses?
Step 1
is to see the Career Center Counselor, who will have Ohlone applications for you to fill out.

courses?
