American Red Cross
The American Red Cross is an organization that reaches out
to the community and helps the needy. It hopes to develop
positive and useful citizenship responsibilities and
dedication to the improvement of all human relations. The
club encourage loyalty to the school and community. It works
in conjunction with the American Red Cross Bay Area chapter
to promote well-being for the school through Red Cross
training and group activities.
Amnesty International
The Mission Amnesty chapter is dedicated to publicizing the
worldwide struggle toward justice and peace. Amnesty
International is an independent, worldwide movement working
impartially for the release of prisoners of conscience who
have neither used nor advocated violence, fair and prompt
trials for all political prisoners, and an end to torture
and execution in all cases. Amnesty International is
independent of any political, ideological, or religious
affiliations and is funded by donations from its members and
supporters around the world.
Children at Heart
Children at Heart is a club that increases interaction
between high school students and the younger community by
tutoring and childcare at homeless shelters. Establishing a
ground-breaking beneficial relationship, members of Children
at Heart wholeheartedly believe this principle: children are
our future, and if we choose to disregard their needs, we
lose them -- but we also lose ourselves in the process.
Emergency and Disaster Preparedness Club
The EDP Club caters to all students who are interested in
preparing themselves for natural and biological disasters,
which are plentiful worldwide. Our goal is to prepare a
majority of the students and staff so that they would be
able to doe exactly this. We have also been working along
with the School Safety Committee, which is chaired by Ms.
Low. We provide training in first aid, CPR, and Personal
Emergency Preparedness (PEP). We sponsor the Community
Emergency Response Team (CERT) program, which teaches
earthquake, fire, biological hazard, flood, and terrorism
preparedness and is a full-length version of the three hour
PEP class and has provided students with at least 18 service
hours.
Key Club
Key Club is a club devoted to making keys. Not. Actually,
it's the oldest and largest service program for high school
students, existing in almost 5,000 high school campuses. It
is a high school branch of the humanitarian organization
Kiwanis International, which is why KEY stands for Kiwanis
Educated Youth. This club serves the community by helping
out at the homeless shelter, holding various drives to raise
money for the less fortunate, and other activities that are
fun and build leadership.
Leo Club
The LEO (Leadership Experience Opportunity) club is an international volunteering club whose
goal is to serve the community in a way that is beneficial
for both the community and members. With a wide range of
activities from Trick-or-treat on Safety Street to the
annual AIDS Walk, every event offers a unique experience
while earning community service hours. So next time you see
someone in a magenta LEO shirt, don't be afraid to go up to
them because all Leos will welcome you with a big smile!
Mission SOS
In the past five
years of the SOS project, over 160 schools both public and
private, have formed a dedicated network of educational
communities committed to creating data-based solutions to
reduce academic stress within their schools. Each team
attends workshops, is assigned a Stanford Coach, and with
the support of Stanford University's School of Education
begins a process of change. All are high performing schools.
All have witnessed an increase in stress-related behaviors
within their communities. All have chosen to support
achievement while reducing academic stress, by working to
improve the health, school engagement, and academic
integrity of their schools. Our Mission Statement:
Mission SOS is supporting a school environment that nurtures
integrity, academic engagement, connectedness and well
being.
Rotary Interact
Interact Club, one of the largest community service clubs on
campus (with over 300 members and more than 30 events a
year), provides students with the opportunity to engage in
fun and rewarding service activities that benefit community
and international causes. The club is the high school
chapter of Rotary International, and is organized in a way
so that members can meet and work with students from other
Interact clubs at other schools in Fremont. Interact usually
takes on an international goal (last year, it raised enough
money to build in rural Africa 9 clean-water pumps for over
4, 200 people) and many other smaller community projects,
including Great America's Charity Run, Christmas in the
Park, and Easter Surprise. Last year, Interactors held a
charity dance, organized a multicultural show, and helped
with Teacher Appreciation Week. If you want to meet people
form other schools, do your part for the community, and
possibly fulfill that service hour requirement, all while
having a good time through fun and unique projects, be sure
to join MSJHS Interact Club!
Unity
For students who like to have fun and help the community at
the same time, Unity is the organization to join. Unity has
been recognized as the loose, but still serious community
service club of the school. So if you're looking for a
relaxing service club, this is it. Past activities have
included New Students Reception, Christmas Caroling at
convalescent homes and hospitals, and hosting parties of all
sorts. |
