Special Program Elementary School Information

New Registrants to Fremont Unified School District

Every child must initially enroll at the school assigned to their home address. There are two programs that offer the opportunity to transfer to another elementary school if you want your child to be enrolled in that program. Admission is based on available space. If you are interested in the Science Magnet or Spanish Immersion Programs, you will need to fill out an Intra District Transfer Request at your home school after you register. Please make the request as MAGNET or IMMERSION in the upper right hand corner. All regular intra district transfer requests for the school year 2009-2010 may not be filed until May 1, 2009.

Science Magnet Program: Elementary School Science Magnet Program - Mattos Elementary, which is centrally located off Mowry Ave. near 880, offers a "Soaring into Science" program that turns natural curiosity into a unique learning experience for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. The program uses approved district and state curriculum standards and enriches them with science wherever appropriate. Students may enter at any grade. Immersion Program: The goal of this program is to provide fluency and literacy in two languages. Both English and Spanish speakers in Kindergarten receive 90% of their instruction in Spanish. Instruction in Spanish decreases each year until the fifth grade where they receive 50% of their instruction in Spanish and 50% in English. A brochure is available in both English and Spanish that explains the program. This is an enriching program for both Spanish and English Speakers. Entry is encouraged at grade K or 1 unless the student has a strong background in Spanish. Contact the school for more details.
