Classroom News
Mrs. Paul
05/20/2013
This week is the last homework packet of the school year.
Last week, we learned about rainbows! We learned the sounds to Yy and Zz. We learned the importance of re-reading stories, cause and effect and wrote sentences.
This week, we'll learn about recycling. We will review the sounds learned in the school year. We will read the next decodable, (Yes Tip!) and practice comprehension techniques such as asking questions, re-reading for clarification and cause and effect.
Notes/Reminders
Open House- May 21st- Parents and families are welcome to come to see our classroom (7pm-8pm), say good-bye to Mrs. Rugg (6:30pm-7pm) and buy books from the book fair (6:30pm-8:30pm)!
Volunteer Tea- June 7, 2013- If you have volunteered in my class, you are invited to a morning tea and snacks. Please come to the Multi-Purpose Room from 7:45am-8:30am. You may drop off your child at the big kid's playground. Teachers will supervise them.
Cafeteria Day- see blue flyer for details. We will be having hot lunch in the cafeteria one day in June. If you would like your child to buy lunch (as a practice for 1st grade), then please send the money along with the blue form...due on May 31st! Your child may bring a bag lunch instead.
Kindergarten Playground- Our kindergarten playground is in dire need of new structures and recycled rubber floors (instead of tanbark). The play structures are old and rusted. It is not always a safe place for our students to play. Cats poop in the tanbark and students continually play in it. We tell students not to play in it, but they do so anyways. We're always calling the custodian to come clean it up. Furthermore, the ground surrounding the playground is very rough so when the students fall, the scrapes are deeper than than they should be. There is also a cement barrier around the playground in which students frequently trip on because it's too high.
The kindergarten teachers and I wrote a letter to the district earlier this school year. Your help is needed!! Please write a letter to the district office stating your concerns about the playground. Hopefully the district office will replace the playground sooner than later and our students will have a safer place to play. Thank you for your help!
The school has reached the goal of reading books. Dragon reader logs will no longer be sent home.
