Safety at School

Each school in the Fremont Unified School District has a safety plan in place.  Additionally, our district has a strong partnership with the Fremont Police Department to ensure safety at and around schools.  School safety plans outline emergency procedures  and all of our school sites, staff and students, practice emergency drills for earthquake, other emergencies and lockdowns.  Parents may ask to view these plans at their school office. Many drills at school sites ask for our parent volunteers to participate.

The standard practice of our schools is to have parents and all visitors check in with the office and receive a visitor's badge before proceeding to classrooms. At the beginning of each school year and on an ongoing basis,  we remind staff and students to be alert and aware of their surroundings to ensure people are in compliance with this rule.

Please see the following FUSD links.

Fremont is a safe community but the recent incidents in Connecticut, while thousands of miles away, serve as a reminder of how precious our children are and how even the best security plans, cannot eliminate all risk.  The safety of our students is our number one priority.   As you talk with your children about the tragedy in Connecticut, there are many web resources available to help parents and children deal with violence.  The American Psychological Association offers advice at the link below:

It is critical that parents/guardians keep the school informed of their contact telephone number.  Our communication system allows the school to place emergency notification calls to parents so it is important that we have up-to-date contact numbers for parents.  Should you have any additional questions please feel free to contact me or your child's principal.

  • Traffic Safety Bulletin

    Afternoon Drive-through Now Closed

    Dear Parents,

Last month we sent out urgent requests for additional parent traffic volunteers. We are grateful to the two people who responded. Unfortunately, we did not get enough responses and we are forced to close the afternoon drive-through due to unsafe conditions. As you probably know, the drive-through was closed most of last year for the same reason. We had hoped to find enough volunteers to keep it open this year, but have been unable to do so.

The morning drive-through remains open but with a reduced set of volunteers. We ask your help to keep the morning drive-through open despite the lack of volunteers.

    ·       Do not cut into line. The entrance to the drive-through is from Denise. Do not try to enter the drive-through from McKay. What do you teach your children when you cut?

    ·       Pull all the way forward to the fence in the drive-through. Your child can walk from the head of the line just fine; they’ll walk all the way to the playground anyway. By stopping part way along you simply block other parents. Remember the Golden Rule.

    ·       Right-turn only out of school. A left turn delays the parents behind you and makes traffic worse. A sign is posted to this effect and you are required by law to follow it.

    ·       Follow volunteer instructions. You are required to do so by law.

Since most of you are unable to volunteer, please at least help us by following the above simple guidelines. Failure to do so may cause the closure of the morning drive-through as well, with a resulting horrible increase in traffic. The drive-through is a volunteer operation; the school is not required to provide this service.

It is not too late to volunteer. A single 20-minute shift a week is a small price to pay for your convenience and your child’s safety. Sufficient volunteers will keep the morning drive-through running smoothly, and will allow us to reopen in the afternoon.   traffic@mvsa-fremont.org

    Thank you,

    MVSA Board

    Mission Valley Traffic Committee
